CT Post Mortem - 1 Day Course

Focus:  An interactive course including cases of CT Post Mortem studies and lectures by a CTPM Radiologist, Dr Simon Beardmore, Coroner Dr James Adeley, CTPM Radiographer, Danielle Lucas and Forensic Radiographer, Amy Brookes.

Aim:  To provide an overview and better understanding of the advantages of CTPM in determining the cause of death 

"In the first 3 months of operation, over 90% of scans established the cause of death avoiding 415 invasive post-mortems" 

Target Audience:  Radiologists, Radiographers and Service Providers considering setting up a CTPM Service

Course Director:  Dr Simon Beardmore is a Consultant MSK Radiologist based at LTHTR.  In 2018 Dr Beardmore was the lead radiologist and instrumental in the set up and piloting of the first Post Mortem CT service in the country

Speakers

Dr James Adeley is Her Majesty's senior coroner for Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen. He practised as an ENT surgeon before leaving medicine in 1993. He requalified as a lawyer and worked in the city in mergers and acquisitions before changing roles to defend NHS trusts against negligence actions and conducting professional disciplinary prosecutions before the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

He recently featured alongside Dr Simon Beardmore and Dr Sue Kearney in the Channel 5 groundbreaking documentary Cause of Death 

Danielle Lucas - Senior APT (Anatomical Pathology Technologist)

Danielle has 18 years experience as an APT and has extensive knowledge of a wide variety of post-mortems including:

Amy Brookes - Lead Post Mortem Radiographer

Amy is the Post-Mortem CT Lead and advanced practitioner in forensic and post-mortem radiography at LTHTR. She has extensive post-mortem and forensic experience in adult PM cases in plain-film, CT and PM angiography and in live SPA cases and PM paediatric cases including SPA, SUDI and forensics. Additionally, she has deployment experience in DVI.
