East Lancashire Teaching Hospitals was awarded funds to develop satellite education facilities that will link to the existing site at EHUMS. These Imaging Academy facilities will provide enhanced training opportunities for a greater number of radiology trainees supporting expansion in training numbers, in addition to providing high quality radiology teaching for other health professionals in the trust and across the local ICS.

Teaching Facilities 

Our Radiology Academy iMac Suite has 2 rooms. The Main Room has 18 learner iMacs and 1 tutor iMac which is connected to multiple screens in the room including an interactive Samsung Flip Board. The Secondary Room currently has 1 tutor iMac (with the potential to expand the number of workstations in future).

There is also a comfortable seating zone at the rear of the Radiology Academy Room. The Learning Centre hosts many other services that facilitate work, learning and education.

The Samsung Interactive Flip Board is a multi-functional, feature-rich piece of technology that can be used as a stand-alone screen acting as a digital whiteboard with multimedia features, or it can be connected to external desktop or mobile devices to import or export content

 

Repeater Screens

 

High-Definition Screens strategically positioned in the room to enhance viewing of the Tutor computer’s content

 

Room Mics

 

High Quality Specialised Room mics are fitted in the Radiology Academy Suite to facilitate conference calls between interlinked Radiology Suites

 

Custom pre-set Motion Camera

 

Moving Camera which can turn to pre-set angles to picture the Tutor or the Trainees at the touch of a button during video calls

 

Extron Box Central Hub

 

The Tutor’s desk is geared with a central management system to simply and easily control the necessary functions

Adjustable Camera with built in Sound Bar and Mic

 

A moveable camera that is mounted on a sound bar with a built-in Mic. The camera is operated by remote control and can be used to pan to the tutor or learners during video calls

Directions by Road

Learning Centre from M65:

Leave the M65 at Junction 5 (Shadsworth/Haslingden) onto the A6077, Haslingden Road heading towards Blackburn, Go straight across the next five roundabouts and at the sixth roundabout turn right into the Learning Centre.

 

Learning Centre from Blackburn Bus Station:

Continue along Salford, heading away from the town centre. When passing the traffic lights veer right and head along Cicely Lane until you reach the T-junction (Higher Audley Street/A6078). Turn right onto Higher Audley Street/A6078 and continue until the next junction. Turn left onto Bennington Street where the Hospital is signposted. Follow Bennington Street until the T junction for Haslingden Road. Turn left onto Haslingden Road and continue up the road, the Learning Centre is located on the left at the first roundabout.
